Early Life
Wanjiru Achieng’ Kamau was born on 12 March 1948 in Nyakach, Kisumu County, to the late Mzee Otieno Ouma and Mama Atieno Ouma. She was raised in a loving and disciplined family alongside her brothers and sisters, where she learned the values of hard work, respect, and community from an early age.
Growing up in the village, Wanjiru was known for her cheerful personality, kindness, and willingness to help others. She actively participated in family activities and community gatherings, earning the love and admiration of many people around her. Her upbringing laid the strong foundation of faith, compassion, and resilience that would guide her throughout her life.
Education
Wanjiru began her early education at Nyakach Primary School, where she was recognized as a bright and disciplined student. She later proceeded to a local girls’ secondary school in Kisumu County and successfully completed her studies.
Although opportunities were limited during her time, she valued education deeply and encouraged younger family members and children in the community to pursue learning. She believed education was one of the greatest gifts a parent could give to a child and remained passionate about supporting the education of her children and grandchildren.
Work & Business Life
Wanjiru was a hardworking and dedicated woman who spent many years supporting her family through small business ventures and farming activities. She was well known for her determination, honesty, and commitment in everything she did.
Over the years, she operated small businesses in Nairobi and supported community development initiatives whenever she could. Through her efforts, she helped educate her children and contributed positively to the lives of many relatives and neighbours.
Marriage & Family Life
Wanjiru Achieng’ Kamau was lovingly married to Joseph Kamau Njoroge, with whom she shared many years of love, partnership, and mutual respect. Together, they built a strong and united family grounded in faith, discipline, and compassion.
She was a devoted wife and a caring mother who dedicated herself fully to the wellbeing of her family. Her home was always open to relatives, friends, neighbours, and anyone in need of comfort or support.
Wanjiru treasured family deeply and found joy in bringing people together during celebrations, prayers, and family gatherings. She was blessed with children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly and guided with wisdom and unconditional love.
Her life was a shining example of humility, generosity, and selfless service to others.
Church Life & Faith
Wanjiru Achieng’ Kamau was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. She was an active member of her local church for many years and faithfully participated in church services, prayer meetings, women’s fellowship, and community outreach activities.
Illness & Final Days
In her later years, Wanjiru experienced health challenges which she faced with courage, patience, and faith. Despite her illness, she remained hopeful and continued encouraging those around her with strength and wisdom.
During her final days, she was surrounded by the love and support of her family, friends, and loved ones who cared for her deeply. She appreciated every visit, prayer, and word of encouragement shared with her.
Even in moments of weakness, Wanjiru remained calm and steadfast in faith, trusting God completely. On 4 January 2025, she peacefully rested and went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, unity, and compassion.
Though her passing brought deep sorrow to many hearts, her family finds comfort in knowing that she lived a meaningful and fulfilled life and that her memories will continue to inspire generations to come.
